Exploring perspectives through drama
Nations/ Europeans Activity In this activity, we explored different points of view through the use of role play, brainstorming and tableaux. This activity integrates social studies because it explores the complex relationship between First Nations and Europeans. Through drama, students critically reflect on this relationship and perspectives of the two different points of view. This lesson begins with groups being assigned the two roles: European and First Nations. Groups are then asked to outline a person on a large sheet of paper. They will reflect on the feelings of the character and write words associated with feelings inside the character. Whereas, they will write about outside influences to the character in the outside portion of the character. After students have time to reflect on each character, they will come together to create a tableaux whereby they will depict a scene between the two.
